February 2018: The water-deprived agricultural sector in the Mother City will receive 7–10 million cubic metres of water from the Groenland Water Users Association (GWUA), bringing some much-needed relief to water-strapped Capetonians. And as a means of paying it forward, Toy Kingdom – South Africa’s leading toy retailer has donated dozens of toys to a local orphanage in the Elgin community.

“We are experiencing the worst drought in over a century and thanks to the GWUA and its significant contribution, Day Zero has been pushed back. As a business and as residents of this city, we are immensely grateful for their aid and support during a time when we need it most. This donation is our way of saying thank you,” says Henri van Wijk, Managing Director at Toy Kingdom.

Kristine Hart, Brand Manager at Toy Kingdom handed-over a range of wood and bamboo toys that included doll houses, scooters, musical instruments, as well as educational toys to the Agape Children’s Home in Elgin as Toy Kingdom’s token of appreciation. “We’re hoping that the exciting new editions to the Agape toy boxes will make playtime fun and extra special for the kids for a long time to come,” Hart says.
Earlier this month, the group of deciduous fruit growers from Grabouw and Elgin agreed to provide the Mother City with a “one-off” supply of water from their private dams, as a result Day Zero has been pushed to 4 June.
