Dear Team
It still seems a little early to be commenting on the year’s performance but as we celebrated our year-end Christmas function last night, I thought it an appropriate time to share some thoughts and echo the sentiments made in my speech last night.

Once again, I’d like to thank you for your continued support and superb efforts that have again contributed to the successes of our individual businesses.

As the Buddha said, “alone we can do so little, together we can do so much”. This has become so evident to me over the past few years and as we continue to grow with what now feels like a snowball effect.

Henry Ford defined quality as “doing it right when no one is looking” – I have tried to apply that philosophy to all that I do, with a commitment to always giving my absolute best efforts, whether it be training for a sports event; preparing for a business meeting,; designing a new product, report or process or simply hosting a customer for dinner. Nothing pleases me more than knowing that I’ve given something my all and it’s an incredibly gratifying feeling to look over the past year and know that is exactly what we have done across each of our businesses and almost every project and priority set at the start of the year.

To my executive management team, that have so reliably executed what I require of them and have managed their teams and responsibilities with such courage, determination, passion and vigour – I sincerely thank you for allowing me to be able to focus on the “bigger picture stuff” while knowing that each business lies in the most capable hands.

I’m thoroughly excited and grateful to be given the opportunity to give back to the community this coming Thursday. The Sportingbet team and I will be visiting a sports field in Khayelitsha, where we will donate over 180 different sporting goods and equipment to a group of underprivileged kids.

On that note, I would also like to point out that for this year, we have paid South African Revenue Service (SARS) over a whopping R50 million in the various forms of taxes levied. I sincerely pray that this money is handled and disseminated amongst various government projects and expenses with the appropriate diligence, care, attention and intelligence that we show within our businesses when incurring expenses and investing in capital outlays.

To each and everyone of you, I thank you for your individual efforts and more importantly the collective contributions made. I look forward to another successful year and continuing with you on our journey to the top of each of our markets!

Best wishes
Cuan
